Onychoschizia, also known as brittle nails or split nails, is a condition characterized by the splitting or peeling of the nails. It primarily affects the fingernails and toenails and can result in weakened, fragile, or easily broken nails. This condition can be caused by various factors such as excessive dryness, repetitive trauma or injury to the nails, nutritional deficiencies, frequent exposure to water or chemicals, certain medical conditions, or certain medications. Treatment may involve lifestyle changes, proper nail care, avoiding harsh chemicals, protecting the nails from trauma, and addressing any underlying causes or deficiencies.
