Subungual Hematoma
« Back to Glossary Index
Subungual hematoma is a condition characterized by the accumulation of blood underneath the toenail. It occurs as a result of trauma or injury to the toe, causing blood vessels beneath the nail bed to rupture and bleed. This condition is often painful and can cause discoloration, swelling, and pressure underneath the nail. If the hematoma is significant or causes severe pain, it may require medical intervention such as draining the blood from under the nail to alleviate symptoms.
