Subungual Warts
« Back to Glossary Index
Subungual warts are a type of wart that specifically affects the area underneath the toenail. They are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) and can be quite painful. Subungual warts often start as small, flesh-colored or white bumps and gradually grow larger. As they develop, they may cause the nail to become thickened, discolored, or detached. If left untreated, subungual warts can be bothersome and require medical intervention to remove them.
