Onychogryphosis

« Back to Glossary Index

Onychogryphosis is a condition characterized by abnormal nail growth in the toes, where the nail becomes excessively thickened, curved, and deformed. It can result in a claw-like appearance of the affected toenail. This condition is commonly seen in elderly individuals, as well as those with poor circulation, certain medical conditions, or a history of trauma to the toenail. Onychogryphosis can cause discomfort, pain, and difficulty with normal foot care, such as trimming nails. Treatment usually involves regular trimming of the nail, proper hygiene, and in some cases, surgical intervention may be necessary.
