Subungual Exostosis

« Back to Glossary Index

Subungual exostosis is a condition characterized by the development of a bony growth underneath the toenail. It typically affects the big toe and can cause pain, discomfort, and changes in the nail’s shape and appearance. This condition is often associated with trauma or injury to the toe, leading to the formation of excessive bone growth in response to the damage. If left untreated, subungual exostosis can worsen, causing further complications and difficulties with walking or wearing shoes.
