Onychocryptosis Pain

« Back to Glossary Index

Onychocryptosis, commonly known as an ingrown toenail, is a foot condition characterized by the abnormal growth of a toenail into the surrounding skin. This can cause pain, inflammation, and often leads to infection. The condition typically occurs in the big toe, although it can affect any toenail. Ingrown toenails can be caused by a variety of factors, including improper nail trimming, shoe pressure, trauma, or genetic predisposition. Treatment for onychocryptosis may include soaking the foot in warm water, wearing proper footwear, and in more severe cases, surgical intervention may be necessary to remove part or all of the ingrown toenail.
