Onychomycosis Cream

« Back to Glossary Index

Onychomycosis cream is a topical medication specifically designed to treat fungal infections of the toenails. Onychomycosis, also known as toenail fungus, is a common condition caused by various types of fungi that invade and multiply in the nails. These infections can lead to thickened, discolored, and brittle toenails, as well as discomfort or pain.

Onychomycosis creams typically contain antifungal ingredients, such as terbinafine or ciclopirox, which work by inhibiting the growth and reproduction of the fungi causing the infection. They are applied directly to the affected nails, usually once or twice daily, following proper cleansing and drying of the area. The cream is generally massaged into the nail and surrounding skin, allowing the active ingredients to penetrate and treat the infection.

Treating onychomycosis with a cream may take several weeks or months, depending on the severity of the infection and the individual response to the medication. It is important to follow the instructions provided by a healthcare professional or as mentioned on the product label to achieve the best results.
